the last few years have seen chicago footwork rise to international success, and traxmans debut album - *the mind of traxman* on planet mu - played no small part in that. it showcased cornelius fergusons brilliant ability to synthesise the beat digging of classic hip hop with the high-speed abstraction of footworks house-derived beat science. the selection of tracks on this second chapter show a slightly different take on traxman s abilities. instead of bringing in concepts from other genres, he simply creates a wider variety of footwork, made with a minimal, reduced palette. often just one or two samples are selected and diced into brain-blurring cubist puzzles that bear little relation to their original sources, or anything else for that matter.

talk about saving the best until last. if you thought that the first two parts of awanto 3s opel mantra trilogy were good, just wait until you hear part 3. it delivers a brilliantly breathless conclusion to what could well be one of the strongest debut albums of 2014. by now, you should know the script. amsterdam producer steven van hulle has previously shown glimpses of his musical talents, either with sporadic solo productions (see his superb 2010 debut on rush hour, for five), or alongside friends from the dutch scene (san proper, young marco and tom trago, in particular). opel mantra, a debut album split across three 12 inch singles (a cd version will follow later in the year), is his big reveal – our first chance to wallow in his unique and thrilling fusions of deep house, detroit techno and a multitude of vivid global influences.

manticore by deemonlover is yet another piece of enigmatic and deviant techno-constructs, a debut release from the unhallowed incognito duo. manticore bubbles with an array of contrasting moods, ranging from the buoyancy and melodic traits of the opener velcro, the stained oomph of ghetto-esque j.a.a.p., to the chromatic shades and warmth of violet kink and the menacing tone of the cruncher till primalis.

londons powell works with opposites, in a way that is delightfully disconcerting. his tracks, on the surface, seem relatively uniform - but listen closer, or at punishing volume, and they teem with detail: wiry guitars, sinister yelps, synth figures that fizz like bubbles through sparkling water. across two eps in 2012 for his own diagonal label and one for death of rave in 2013, he has established himself as one of the uks most unique electronic musicians.

like the satisfying first sip of soda water spritz, roland tings debut ep, *milky way*, bubbles, barms, and beads through your body. roland tings is rohan newman, a melbourne producer who, like recent rubies holy balm, forces, and canyons, proves there is just more and more greatness behind the great and powerful oz. melodic acid trips doused with swish-ticky-booms, like a rubber ball in space with endless bump and bounce. sweet off his japanese jaunt, speeding things down with sapphire slows shows, newmans taste is pure effervescence and buoyancy. but he has got a percussive stickiness as well, a vim/vigor that raps and rips through trax touch-ups and echo-plexes. not the nineties but the none-ties – no glimmer glam, or sampladelic vocal vacations, or happy house heartbeats. he ends the creamy *milky way* with a brilliantly wonky theme that springs like a wind-up toy gone loose. roland tings, dings, and zings.

hollands fah aka robin de bekker enters the scene with this heavy, braindance inspired five tracker. opener fine space is spooky and upbeat with false melodies fighting the tracks ground level acid bubbles.bonus orbits starts off as a fast electronic harpsichord cut for a smart dance floor before turning into a hectic swamp of challenging harmonies.sixears is a shorter track holding the middle ground between a moody elecktroids tune and hectic, vibert-like acid. the eps title track and centerpiece then, is characterized by rewinds, whistles, haunting melodies and a total lack of repetition, its a 9 minute long excursion into the most unreal part of bekkers mind. fah finally says goodbye with an eerie cut that sounds like a humming predator with no food to eat. fahs first one for 030303 comes with appropriate, occultist artwork.

sleep ds bacon ep is the next offering from sydneys excellent death strobe imprint. sleep d are a couple of young cats from melbourne, the production duo are sure to be an integral part of the deep house explosion coming from their city, spearheaded by the likes of tornado wallace, fantastic man and the melbourne deepcast crew. the record has a range of flavours all tied together by a fundamental warmth and soulfulness. the title track flows and floats in a dreamlike state, whilst simultaneously nailing the groove from beat one. bubbles vs the cat takes it up a notch, entering the club realm with rich bass and tight rhythms. their remix of chet fakers love & feeling is certain to give any dance floor a collective orgasm, oozing an erotic strangeness as it heaves and thrusts away, while ischa has a tickle of techno thrown into the mix and, despite its druggy sedation, has a hidden energy for dancing feet. one limited pressing.

seven tracks on the new lowriders release and its a real joy to listen to! the ep opens with the cheerful title track with the likes of kissey on vocals and it is amazingly sticky and feels like a compendium of 30 years of electronic music, with seemingly effortless transitions between detroit house, booty bass and future music.baby treats you on a twostep/house bumper which will kill you. bek is like your 808 swingbeat ghetto track: redundancy to the bone covered with bubbles and some essential vocoder science. sduk makes baby into a dancefloor stomper, whereas starkeys interpretation of field (which appeared on our beatitude compiler) adds and enhances drama and suspense from the original.and then there is the magical krampfhaft remix of tic tac toe, a worthy last track, schizofrenic, driven and recognizable as a mutated juke screamer.

2012 will be a good music year! dark descent start of with a release of sei2ure. this well known artist began his career at enzyme records and is now broaden his vision with releases on several labels. we are proud to have him on the label. expect some heavy tunes in a way only he can produce!

the >spectrum riff< ep comes from moscow based beat maker and full time firefighter alexander goryachev, otherwise known as 813. five original tracks bursting with juicy synth lines, retro drum machines and waves of thick sub bass, culminating in a sound that is one part boogie, one part hip hop, one part electro and three parts forward thinking bass music. slugabed (ninja tune) appears on remix duty with a drum heavy workout full of shuffling percussion, deep basslines and strong melodies. 813 has been operating in the much talked about russian beat scene for a couple of years, appearing on error broadcasts >fly russia< compilation and kicking off the rad collective label with the >back in space jungle< ep. he has another ep on rad dropping this year along with other projects and collaborations in the pipeline. as a live act he has supported moby, doom and hudson mohawke. the spectrum riff ep has been a long time in the making, its been worth the wait.

tony ollivierra begins 2011 by getting down with the machine sound. bordering on acid-funk, this ep really gets it shakin. the title track jericho, reeks of the latter days of disco with a deep bass line that fades in and takes control of the party. a warm synth chord then kicks in along with some strings which build up to a peak time climax. nag champa captures a deep and surreal groove with a sweet aromatic feel that definitely is burning. the dark bass line entangles the listener in a sensual moment while a resonant synth riff tops it off. on the flip, midi aura begins with an uncompromising synth bass line that does not quit. the sequence bubbles onward and a thick chord sweeps through the arrangement opening up into a placid apex of harmony. the aura of this midi is feel good all the way. lastly jack box, another acid track that works the cutoff and resonance into a climax of delightful poly rhythm and melody. jericho will be a very limited vinyl press and will be the final project on the ibex music label. keep your ears open for his next label venture which will be introduced this summer.

this debut lp by innergaze is chock full of rugged hand played analog synths lines, primitive drum machines, haunting vocals, and psychic jewelry. call it synthwave, call it punk, call it metaphysical body music or at this juncture whatever one sees fit, but this duos music goes beyond naming names for the sake of it. from the freaky, unrelenting opener >no shame< to the chris & cosey-esque >la la la<, this record creates many aural worlds to inhabit and explore. the title track >we are strange loops< bubbles at a slow, hazy drug induced bpm, while >illusions<, with its distorted almost guitar-like synth lines and stripped down 808 programming, brings things right back to the dance floor. the ideas and feelings executed here are a direct outpouring of what happens when the machines are turned on, played and recorded.

this music works by releasing carbon dioxide gas into a batter through an acid-base reaction, causing bubbles in the wet mixture to expand and thus leavening the mixture. it is used where the batter lacks the elastic structure to hold gas bubbles for more than a few minutes. because carbon dioxide is released at a faster rate through the acid-base reaction than through fermentation, music made by chemical leavening is called >quick compositions. the tracks are made up of an alkaline component, one or more acid salts, and an inert starch (cornstarch in most cases, though potato starch is also used).

>liberty city blues< is a minimalistic piece of jungle music reminiscent of early photek or source direct. from the outset the tune just bubbles with menace and keeps on building and evolving throughout. a pure bass-heavy slice of proper jungle.
>autumn drops< is a soulful roller that shows that this crew are ones to watch in 2010. full of melancholy, icy vibes and a subtle basslinethat gets right under your skin, this track is a firm favourite for this year.

moment psychedelik - its all said in the title, actually. it is easy to get lost in all those layers of mesmerizing sounds, swirling around you like bubbles sparkling out of a well shaken bottle. just before you lose it all, the kickdrum comes in to lead you to a winding path... upon glistering plains, through some dry land into a multicoloured jungle, populated with all kinds of textures and sounds. enter the next level - like the title suggests. the flipside utilises a more pronounced guide: mr talking drum himself will show you how to find the clearing of enlightenment where your heart gets filled with joy and your feet cant stop dancing. supported by lopazz, ame, tobi neumann.

abusing our soft side for dub edgar 9000 gave us these compelling tracks.>play me minus three (patience vs. epiphany mix)< û what starts like a nicely arranged minimal tune bubbles and billows after a short pause up to a big ride on the acid-dub-ghost-train. at the latest when the decently deployed and gated french horn pad sets in on the second half you are completely lost. not for quick peep û but beware: danger of addiction of endless playing is definitely given.meanwhile the title >hook & bait< of the b-side rather reads like the basic principle of fishing. it really sounds like the classic principle of ambient à well almost, since in this case this ambient track is drifting along itself, underlined with a straight driving and floating rhythm fed by an earthly bassline.petri heil! (as we say in krauts-country)

jake childs requires very little introduction to the more discerning house ear. with releases on leading labels including drop music, freerange and doubledown, not to mention his own uni.form imprints, he has taken the house world by storm over the past few years. here he serves up some retro chicago sounding yet stripped back jackers. seems really simple at first, a real trademark of jake s sound, but its bumpin bassline, bleeps and squelches grow around you becoming more intense with every listen. the flip delivers >good times< which incorporates his brand of choppy jackin beats, punchy snares, gritty synths and rolling bass that rips apart any dancefloor. the track flips mid-way and bubbles under as the bass lines compete for attention before recombining for another roof raising moment. the >beat machine< is an eerie voyage into the middle ground between house and pop. once again moody synths and a growling sub bass lead the way, with the haunting vocals of lil prince (who has previously featured on jake s icon and drop music eps) gliding over the mix! hot floor burning shit

south terminus gets you warmed up with a shuffle rhythm but a mean frizzling acidic synth line like a steel whip and a nervously knocking percussive sounds punch the rhythm more and more into a straighter pattern - when the tune finally falls into a 4/4 beat after the break and the acid line completely bubbles over its pure mayhem. 'clubbanger' on the b-side gets underneath your skin more subtely: headbangin tech-boogie with suspensefull, slightly claustrophobic string backings and robotic voice snippets. label head clement opts in his remix for a punk-funk slant with cool dangling bassline and snotty rhyhtm guitar wrapped up in foggy synth sounds
